OK, we're all doing that anyway, but my thoughts lately have been turning towards how I plan to spend 2012. Now, I know there's that group of people who think that it's the end of the world, based on Mayan prophecy. I don't believe it due to my religious beliefs, and because the Mayans themselves say it's the end of a cycle, not the world.
So, in this year of tying up loose ends, I have decided on two projects. The first one, I'm not sharing yet. I figure I'll do that when it's a bit closer to the holidays, but it's a project related to the holidays (I've probably just given away what I'm doing, but . . ). But, on the whole, I am going to work on whittling down my UFO pile.
Because, you see, it's literally a pile. And it slides. I walked in the sewing room, got too close to "the pile" and it got a-slidin'. Those plastic envelopes I keep everything in got to moving, and slipping, and I got a-cursin', and I realized I was about 2 Michaels trips away from being a hoarder.
And I don't want to be a hoarder.
Not to mention, I'm trying to save money, because those credit cards aren't paying themselves off, and how better to pay off debt than to stop shopping? Well, shop less . . .
I had thought about doing the Crazy January Challenge again, but I think realistically, I'm going to stick to picking 15 UFOs and work on those.
Now, I'm not saying I won't start anything new this year. My other project involves quite a few starts (Did I say too much?), and those are going to need fabric. And thread. And I want to work on the Itty Bitty Kitty Quilt Club by Val's Stuff in 2012--I have the last two of those charts on order. And I need to get caught up on my LHN ornaments. Ahh, so many things to do, so little time.
So that's the start of my plan. I know I won't be able to get everything done, but, won't you agree, some headway would be nice?

I think the 2012 Wipocalypse SAL that I'm organizing may be exactly what you need! :)

I am with you ... there are so many started pieces in my stash that I want to get done. Especially class projects --- some that are even quite near completion and some not so much. So, I will be using 2012's Challenge as a UFO-Class Project Challenge. And I have ten of them on my list. A more manageable number than 15, I think. I fear I will fail to complete my Crazy January Challenge 2011 since I am now down to the last three projects and all of them are BAPs. We shall see how I do in this last quarter of the year but I am not terribly optimistic.
It's always good to have a plan. I'm with you on working from my stash instead of buying new, the problem, no will power. I see all of these lovely new designs and for some reason I must HAVE them. Then there is always the DMC that I am missing, I'll go get that 1 skein of thread. No looking around and boom my cart is full of neat stuff.
I can't wait to see what you are working on.
That sounds like a more realistic challenge! I just might be joining in on that one :) The biggest problem for me is all the awesome charts that continue to come out, seeing what everyone else is working on, and lets not forget scissors and the like.. so it really becomes hard to stick to the list!
Sounds like a great plan!
By the way, if you have not already been by my blog, I am doing a giveaway if you wanna go check it out!
The way I did it a few years back was by setting the rule that I couldn't start anything new without finishing something old. I did make progress that year on reducing the UFO pile.
I've made some headway into my 25 UFO challenge, but not much. I really do need to start stitching on them again. I think after I finish the two I started, I will get them back out and start stitching on them again. :)
I like your plan! I haven't shopped much this year for stash--just don't have the funds right now--and truthfully, I don't miss it. I think the thing that I miss the most is the thrill of getting new stash in the mail. I have a gift certificate from my June bday that I'm hoarding and hope to add to it (it's to Drema's) at Christmas, and then treat myself to something coming out at Market in February. Otherwise, I have so many WIPs I could stitch happily on those w/o starting anything new for quite awhile. I like the idea of the WIPocalypse!
